Kitesurfing, wing foiling and foiling on the Wadden Islands
The Wadden Islands are the wildest windsport area in the Netherlands: broad North Sea beaches with space to spare, waves on the outer side and, in some spots, flat water on the Wadden Sea side. Texel, Vlieland and Ameland ask for a little more planning (the ferry, the distance across the island), but they reward you with empty spots where you still have room to yourself on a busy summer day. The beaches mostly face north to northwest, so northerly and westerly winds are onshore and safe here; with southerly wind it quickly turns offshore on the North Sea side. Those same beaches are just as good for wing foiling or foiling, since the safety rules around offshore wind apply no matter which rig you take onto the water.
